KS1 had a wonderfully festive time at Thwaite Mills exploring Christmas customs from the past and what life would have been like at Christmas for rich and poor Victorian children.
The children worked excellently as a team to make their own traditional lemonade and made fast work of the tasting session! Lots of children showed interest in trying the recipe at home also. A wide variety of toys were explored and we were surprised at the huge differences between those given to rich children at Christmas and the ‘make do and mend’ versions given to the poorer children. All of the children made their own Victorian Christmas cards and crackers and they are looking forward to bringing them home shortly. What a great day out, KS1!
