Year 4 have begun a very exciting project in DT – to build a model based on the Temple of Kukulcan, the step-pyramid that dominates the centre of the Chichen Itza archaeological site in the Mexican state of Yucatán.
The children have learnt about various buildings and their uses in the ancient Mayaan city. Year 4 are now creating their own pyramids and temples using measuring, mathematical, joining and creative skills to build their group structures out of ……. sugar cubes!! It is a delicate and exacting process and is requiring great will power from the children to resist eating the sugar cubes!
We look forward to revealing our finished models in a few weeks’ time.
