Kaiser Chiefs Rock School comes to Moorlands

Kaiser Chiefs drummer Nick Hodgson and bassist Simon Rix went back to school on Wednesday.  The pair gave a music lesson to pupils at Moorlands School in Leeds and took questions from the class.

Staff were only expecting drummer Nick but got two stars for the price of one after a parent  bid for a private drumming lesson with Nick and donated the prize back to the school. One parent, Jayne Williams, said: "Simon and Nick were absolutely fantastic and nothing was too much trouble. The kids loved it, they were as high as kites and they won't get any work done in the afternoon now."  The band of pupils from Year 7, aged 11 and 12, played a cover of Guns N' Roses' Sweet Child O' Mine.  Hodgson told them: "You're way better than Simon and I were at your age.

The duo hit all the right notes when they held one-to-one tutorials with five youngsters who have formed a school band - UVL - teaching them how to play one of their best-known hits, I Predict a Riot, and playing alongside them in front of their pals.  The band of pupils from Year 7, aged 11 ans 12, played a cover of Guns N' Roses Sweet Child O' Mine.

UVL bandmember Freddie Dresner, 11, said: "It was probably the best experience of my life."

The world-famous musicians, who went to St Mary's School, Menston, are touring Europe and the US this summer as well as performing at Leeds Festival.

They kicked off the session by listening to the youngsters play before joining in and helping them, then signed dozens of autographs for star-struck students and answered a barrage of questions.
