Mathematics

Maths is taught throughout the school by well qualified teachers, using a variety of methods suited to the individual needs of the children, and supported by appropriate, modern resources. Up until Year 6, we follow the National Curriculum and use this as a foundation for the work covered, with the more able pupils working at least a year ahead of their chronological age. Dovetailing with this, we prepare children to sit the Common Entrance exam at age 13 – although we aim to have covered the Common Entrance curriculum by the time pupils finish their Year 7 year. By setting pupils according to Mathematical ability, we are able to provide high levels of support for less able Mathematicians, while taking the more able well ahead to explore advanced skills and develop their confidence when faced with complex problem solving activities.
