The English department aims to provide pupils with a love and appreciation of our language both in a written and spoken context.
Through studying English in as wide a range of forms as possible, pupils gain an understanding of how language can be manipulated to achieve a desired outcome. More able pupils in each year group are working well beyond the expectations of the National Literacy Strategy.
Pupils undertake regular opportunities to assess their own development and progress in order for them to be successful Common Entrance candidates at age 13.
Spelling and grammar skills are taught pro-actively throughout the school year.
